SP Approves Provision of Livelihood Training for PDLs

With an aim to provide skills training and/or livelihood projects to male and female persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Olongapo unanimously approved Resolution Nos. 120 and 121, respectively, during its 21st Regular Session on May 25, 2026.

Authored and sponsored by Committee on Social Services Chairperson Councilor Anonat, the resolution authorizes the City Mayor, on behalf of the City Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office, to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Olongapo District Jail for the conduct of said training and/or project. The livelihood trainings, to be provided free of charge, include basic massage therapy/reflexology, housekeeping, sewing, bartending, and food and beverage service trainings.

The said office will also be providing further trainings which will enable the PDLs, upon reintegration to the community, to acquire a National Certificate II. They are also hoping to provide financial assistance for the certification fee upon availability of funds.

With the assistance of the Olongapo District Jail and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the project has attracted 362 participants in the previous year, with numbers expected to be higher this year.
